Anyone that knows me well, knows that I am skincare-obsessed. Skincare is one thing that I can’t help but continually go on about because it really is the base of everything; if you don’t feel confident in the appearance of your skin, it can have a huge impact on how you feel about yourself. Having struggled with eczema over the years, I know first hand how that feels.
As you can imagine, my cupboards are full-to-the-brim with arrays of different lotions and potions; so much so to the point where I have a cabinet dedicated to skincare! And over the years I have tried an unbelievable amount of skin treatments - natural or chemical-filled - and I cannot explain how hard it is to find things that work with my nightmare complexion!
So, when I received some complimentary goodies from Pure Potions, I was as excited as a skincare obsessive could be!
Pure Potions is a gorgeous, natural skincare brand which boasts of a wonderful range of creams and salves specially formulated for problem skin types, such as eczema, psoriasis, atopic dermatitis and allergy rash. My absolute favourite aspect about this brand is that their products are fragrance-free, paraben-free and not tested on animals; all individually created within a little UK workshop combined with the goodness of herbs and natural oils - and, you guessed it, no chemicals.
Wrapped up within a little brown box was five items: Skin Salvation Intensive Lip Balm, Skin Salvation Intensive Facial Oil, Skin Salvation Cooling Cream, Skin Salvation Moisturising Ointment and the Skin Salvation Scalp Oil. And yes, this will be in a particular order as I’m going to start with my favourite.
SKIN SALVATION MOISTURISING OINTMENT *
SKIN SALVATION MOISTURISING OINTMENT *
This little glass jar of pea-coloured goodness is a dream. The Skin Salvation Moisturising Ointment comes in a little pot of wax-like product, which needs to be warmed through between your palms before it’s applied to the skin. It is slightly oily in consistency once applied, but in a lovely, smooth way and it sinks in after around 25 minutes. This stuff is unreal. Bearing in mind my skin can often react more to natural products (I have no idea why) and oil-containing creams, my skin reacted beautifully to this ointment. I applied a fairly heavy layer upon my arms and back before bed time whilst my eczema was flaring, and, much to my absolute delight, the following morning my flare-up had calmed by a significant amount. All spots of eczema had - if not dissapeared - drastically decreased and I wasn’t itching as much. I couldn’t believe it!
I absolutely adore this product because, one, it’s an ointment (the best way to pack your skin with hydration is via an ointment). Two, it’s completely natural and chemical-free. Three, it’s non-greasy and it does its job even for the most sensitive of skin (mine is proof). The ingredients are a lovely combination of beeswax, olive fruit oil, calendula extract, chamomile extract and lots of others. Minus its quite strange green colour, and the waxy texture, this product has a lovely organic scent and it is gentle and most of all, it is intensive. I will be sure to buy this product in bulk and possibly even forget about my current body moisturiser in replacement for this one, it’s that good! FYI, Pure Potions are selling it on their website for £7.99 right now.
SKIN SALVATION INTENSIVE LIP BALM *
SKIN SALVATION INTENSIVE LIP BALM *
The Skin Salvation Intensive Lip Balm is a strong handbag must-have. Similar to the moisturiser, it is green in colour with a natural scent, but its goodness is obvious through and throughout. I have been using this lippy every day now for the past two weeks and have found my lips to feel so much smoother. It feels soft and creamy when applied to the skin and, a big plus for me is that it is non-irritating. Again, this lip balm is enriched with some gorgeous natural ingredients such as its chickweed, beeswax, safflower seed oil and many other herbs & oils, perfect for supple skin. Bag yourself a natural lip balm for £4.99 here.
SCALP OIL SKIN SALVATION *
I’m a bit naughty when it comes to nourishing my scalp and hair; and I’m also prone to a dry scalp at times, so I was really excited to try out Pure Potions’ Scalp Oil Skin Salvation. This product comes in a classy green glass bottle with a pump lid. I personally love the presentation of this oil; I think green really screams natural every time, and the pump is so much more practical than your standard oil dispensers. I found that a little goes a long way with this product; only a few drops are needed, and once massaged in to the head, the scent makes you feel like you’re in a spa. It says on the packaging that the results are best once left on the scalp overnight, so I did as I was told and woke up the next morning with a smoother scalp for sure. I made a point of washing my hair thoroughly so to rid of any left-over product, and I could feel that my skin was softer around my scalp. I have used this oil a few times since and generally I’m finding my scalp is much less dry. It’s also lovely to see that I don’t have that horrible greasy build up some scalp oils leave even after three or four hair washes! This is another must buy (for £25, I’ll definitely consider buying in the future) - just click here.
SKIN SALVATION COOLING CREAM *
Anything with the word ‘cooling’ in it and I’m in. My skin is prone to flaring, especially in this humid UK weather and so the Skin Salvation Cooling Cream was right up my street from the get-go. With my arms flaring a little lately, I have been in need of something calming and this little beauty certainly did the trick. This cooling cream is made with organic shea butter and enriched with cool menthol and soothing aloe vera; and this is evident from the moment of application. I spread an even layer of this product over my arms after work and I find that my skin is instantly cooler (the feeling of menthol on my skin is just a dream), but also smoother and hydrated. This is definitely one I will bring on holiday with me for the hot weather and it’s for sure a must-have for anyone who suffers with heat rashes or itchy skin! For £19 I’ll be sure to buy my second tube once I’m all out (purchase here).
I am always nervous about applying oils to my face, as the skin on my face is particularly sensitive in every day possible. I aired with caution when it came to trying the Skin Salvation Intensive Facial Oil ; an oil that yet again comes in gorgeous, classy packaging: a glass bottle filled with champagne-coloured oil which is an 100% natural blend of beneficial oils to care for the facial skin. This oil combines lovely lavender with palmarosa and chamomile essential oils; and the scent really proves that. The application is made easy by its handy pump dispenser, and, again, a little goes a long way with this one. However, with having such sensitive, eczema-prone skin, I didn’t get along so well with this facial oil - but as expected. My face never deals well with oily products; it flared red a little, so I had to remove the product. My Mum, however, lathered her face in it and said she absolutely loved it. The next morning her face looked all dewy, so I am sure the product speaks for itself! You can purchase this little goodie for £22 on Pure Potions website.
