ROCK & ROSE; FLAMBOYANT, GLAM DINING

For my 21st birthday, my lovely family organised a surprise meal at one of Richmond’s diamonds; the ever-so-flamboyant Rock & Rose, situated on the iconic Kew Road. And let me tell you, it was everything that defines glamour, style and eccentricity. The shabby-chic restaurant was dressed with shocking pink tones, vast flower displays, candelight, stunning mirrors, contrasting floral wallpapers for each room, and even a bespoke Swarovski crystal-studded Louis XVI-style chair.

As I entered the restaurant – which welcomed me with a gorgeous little summer patio with quaint tables and chairs at the front – I fell in love with the most beautiful rose patterned wallpaper which framed a jet black, modern bar. Each black breakfast-bar styled tables and chairs were decorated with striking roses, and I was lead further in to the restaurant, I realised that character was its main jewel. Each piece of furniture was completely different but equally as glam – whether it be dark, plush velvet armchairs graced with the most intricate of patterns, or a classic, oak piece – and somehow, every table and chair fit together seamlessly like the most stylish of puzzles.

The place held a few hidden gems, with royal red velvet curtains opening to secret dining rooms which revealed yet more incredible décor designs and a lovely atmosphere. Much to my delight, we were placed on a table which held all 12 of us inside one of the secluded rooms. But, don’t let Rock & Rose’s opulent style detract from their fine selection of food and drink. Their cocktails were nothing less than perfect; I chose the Pretty Woman from their detailed menu, and I was accompanied by a glitter-dusted hot pink mix, decorated with strawberries wedged on the edge of the glass, with mini edible silver glitter balls placed delicately on top. It tasted just as amazing as it looked, and the cocktails my brother and his girlfriend had looked equally as tasty.

The cooking errs on the comfort side (another plus), but with added sparkle. Starters of seared scallops with minted pea puree, herby tomato soup and delicious honey glazed chicken wings are to die for, along with the amazing crispy Teryaki chicken, lobster Mac ‘n’ Cheese and much more to follow for main. Overall, the food was incredible and was definitely on par with the unforgettable décor. Not to mention the staff, who could not have been more accommodating and welcoming, therefore making the experience even more memorable.

This is definitely a place engrained in to my to-re-visit list for the future, for sure – and if you’re looking for something different on a Sunny Sunday or a taste of character and opulence on a Friday night then please do book a table at Rock & Rose.

Thank you so much to Rock & Rose for having us!
